News From Home

News from home is a documentary film done by Chantal Ackerman. In her film she is documenting the letters that her mother sends to her every week or so. The letters are nothing exciting mostly, everyday life. She is simultaneously showing clips of New York City. These photographs or clips are the scenes from New York that one might look past or at least not notice on a busy day of life. As the letters go on, even though they don’t get anymore exciting, they draw you in and you start to feel a connection with this family and the relationships within the family. The letters span over a few years and by the end I was anxious to now how the family was and if she went back to visit her mother. Her mother’s wishes all along were to get letters from her daughter to see how she was doing but ultimately she wanted her daughter to come home to visit. Every mothers dream.

Warhol VS. Goldsmith

Andy Warhol:
Amazon is a place, not an actual place but one out there in the World Wide Web. Today the topic seems to be Halloween costumes. We see mostly skimpy women’s outfits. But there is also the ever so popular jewelry and random worthless junk. Other featured items are big screen TVs and exercise equipment. Who buys this stuff? I would really like to know. If you want a TV shouldn’t you go to a TV store, I mean really, I would be really hesitant to pay so much money for something that you have never even seen before. I guess if you want to live on the edge that’s one way to do it right?
I can see how a site like this could suck a person in for hours, That is if you have nothing else to do, no job or school or kids to focus on – so really if you have no life, check out amazon.com, it will entertain you for hours and take all your money—if you have any….. Since you probably don’t have a job.
No, it could be a good source to buy a book or something used, I was a little hard on them.

Goldsmith:
Amazon.com is a website selling new and used merchandise. On the front page they are selling
Phones,
Elegant earrings under $100.00,
Sexy women’s costumes,
New products from seventh generation
Remember what you were doing during these decades?
Most popular in TVs & HDTVs
Shop Macy’s huge selection of dresses for every occasion
Save up to 30% on Bowflex and Schwinn Fitness Equipment
………. And political advice. That’s what on Amazon.

Derive

Where they’ve come from. We’re not even up to 23rd Street yet. Sings at little song in middle. ‘I hate driving.’

— Frank O’Hara, ‘The Sentimental Units,’
Collected Poems, 467.

This film threw me through a loop, when I thought I knew what was going on and I had it figured out, part two plays and the whole feeling changes. Then again when I came to a conclusion about their relationship part three comes on and you can read hiss thoughts, which didn’t jive with what I was assuming.

When the man gets in the car he tapes a clock to the dashboard. At the end of the video they seem to be in the same place that they started, as if they were just driving around in a big circle and timing themselves. I don’t know why he would put himself through that. The woman that he was with talked the entire time and he said nothing. He seemed as though he was trying to pretend that he was interested in what she was saying but not really listening. She is completely unaware of everything around her except what she is saying and the man that she is with. Although, she isn’t even really paying attention to him because if she were, she would realize that he isn’t really paying attention to her at all.

I don’t know if it is bad sound quality, due to the fact that the film was made in 1964 or if all the other sounds of traffic were meant to drown her out, but the traffic seems to be just as important as what she is saying. As they drive through traffic the noise of the cars and busses drown her “ YAK YAK YAK” out. The man gets fed up with her and tries to turn on the radio. By the time they get to their destination, which I found out is at 34th and Park Avenue, she is still talking and he gets out of the car.

The whole film leaves me feeling confused. But maybe that’s just the Idea!!

Everyday life for Bodie

Everyday life brings to mind the basic Idea of simplicity. For instance our everyday routine usually consists of mundane actions with a few exciting moments here or their maybe a few more or less depending on who we are. Years go by and our lives change and so in fact our routine changes and it turns out that nothing fits in to the Idea of everyday life. Everyday life is constantly changing and evolving in to what is now in this minute our everyday. However, there is consistent routine in the lives of our most loved pets. Through all our changing and evolving lifestyles we seem to keep a solid routine for our “best friends”. They have the ultimate everyday life and although it changes from season to season through the years it is consistent and reliable. They know when they eat, walk, play and sleep. It’s the perfect everyday!!
